Joe Caloway Kills His Brother in Lumpkin County - On Wednesday of last week, just as the sun was hiding herself behind the western hills, another horrible affair occurred in the western portion of Lumpkin County, about eleven miles from Dahlonega. Joe Caloway killed his brother Will, in the field with an ax, who had to do so to keep from losing his own life, but this our citizens were not aware of until the Saturday following as Joe was brought to town on the day after the killing by Constable J. F. PERDUE and put in jail in the absence of the sheriff, who stated the coroner would be in town, probably the next day, with the papers. Our people put it down as another case of murder and didn't know any better until the appearance of Coroner Satterfield, who came in as before stated, with the testimony of half a dozen witnesses and the verdict of the jury was self defense.
