The Cozad Local, Cozad, Nebraska, Friday, December 17, 1937, Page 3: Hiram McNeal Ristine was born October 4, 1876, near Osceola Iowa. When three years of age, the family moved to Lexington, Nebraska, where they remained a few months. They finally located on a homestead five miles northeast of Gothenburg here Mr. Ristine has resided continuously for 57 years.
He was united in the holy estate of matrimony with Nina Williams of Gothenburg, Neb., Dec. 21, 1900. This happy union were born five daughters and one son. In the fall of 1909, he united with the Methodist church, in which organization he became a pillar and has given the most loyal and faithful service to his church, which he loved and in which he worked so happily. He has been a typically Christian father to his family, in which he enjoyed supreme happiness and where he was loved so dearly. Kind and loving in his behavior, devoted to his wife and a true companion and advisor to his children. He was highly respected as a thoughtful neighbor, always ready to assist and sustain those in need of help.
For many years he had been ailing, but his physical difficulties did not darken his attitude toward others. He did bear his physical burden with courage and without complaining. On Dec.6th he took seriously ill and was removed to the Harvey hospital for medical care and treatment. The outcome was doubtful from the beginning, but to save his life the physicians decided upon surgery. All that skilled physicians and faithful nurses could do was done, but his weak heart was unable to bear the strain, and he answered the divine roll call, Dec. 8th, 1937.
He leaves to mourn, his devoted and sorrowing life's companion, his five daughters, namely: Mrs. Glenn Gibson, Mrs. Arthur Ballmer, both of Cozad; Mrs. Harold Warner, Friend, Neb.; Miss Ethel of Hartford, Conn.; Miss Mabel and one son, Bernard, both at home. He also leaves five grandchildren, one brother, Warren Ristine of Gothenburg; two sisters Mrs. Mrs. A. E. Anderson, of Champaign [unable to read] and Mrs. E. B. Sanders of Portland, Oregon and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at two at the home and at two-thirty at the Methodist church, conducted by the church pastor, Dr. Paul I. Phillip. Music was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Buddenburg, Miss Gertrude Norsworthy and Glen Bryant, with Mrs. Howard Welch at the organ. Pallbearers were H. C. Loutzenheisen, [the rest are too faint to read]. Interment was in Gothenburg cemetery.---Gothenburg Times.
