Janet Ainslie Somerville Ewing, 104, of Madison, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Dec. 2, 1903, in Trimble County, Ky., the daughter of George Ainslie and Mary Virginia Wood Somerville. She graduated from Corn Creek Academy in 1921 and was eligible to teach there after she graduated. She was a lifelong member of Corn Creek Baptist Church, and at the time of her death was the oldest and longest-living member. She was a member of Milton Homemakers, and enjoyed collecting plates, cups and saucers. She moved to Madison in 1987 after living most of her life in Trimble County, Ky. She retired as an inspector for Meyers Manufacturing in Madison. She was featured in Madison Courier stories in 2005, 2006 and 2007.

She is survived by one stepdaughter, Geraldine Tilly, several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews; and other relatives.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles R. Ewing, whom she married in February 1926 and who died in November 1976; her second husband, Noble P. Ewing, whom she married in 1977 and who died in 1987; one daughter, Lois Marie Ewing, who died at the age of 10 days; her parents; two sisters, Martha Hayes and Susie Lappin; and three brothers, Charles, Thomas James and George Somerville.

The funeral was at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bedford, Ky.
