Dorothy Mae (Acker) Lowery, 83, of Stillwater, died on Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, in Stillwater. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday in First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Stanley M. Warfield Jr., officiating. Interment will be in Fairlawn Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. on Thursday in Strode Funeral Home. Strode Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. She was born on Dec. 2, 1924, in McKey, to Pervin Acker and Myra (Dobbs) Acker. As Dorothy was growing up, she was influential in rearing her four younger brothers. She married Charles Emory Lowery on June 8, 1949, in Sallisaw. She attended school in McKey and later graduated from Sallisaw High School. She also attended business school in San Antonio, Texas. She was a member of Business Professional Women of America. She worked 36 years with the Farmers Home Administration as an administrative assistant and loan officer. Church was very important to Dorothy and she was a 50-year member of the First United Methodist Church and was the catalyst in starting the Faith Class.She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers, Richard Acker, Bobby Acker and Harold Acker. She is survived by her husband, Charles Emory Lowery, of Stillwater; one son, John Charles Lowery of Stillwater; grandson, Zachary Acker of DeQueen, Ark.; one brother, O.L. Acker of Jenks; and two sisters, Zelma Glass of Muskogee and Velma Rider of Sallisaw. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to the Faith Class, C/O First United Methodist Church, 400 W.
