Marshall Jackson Eckard


Hickory, N.C. - Marshall Jackson Eckard, 87, of Hickory, passed away Oct. 22, 2008, at his residence.

Born Feb. 24, 1921, in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Lewis and Pearl Bollinger Eckard.

Mr. Eckard served our country in the U.S. Navy in World War II. He retired from Armstrong Ford.

In addition to his parents, his sisters, Lucy Ingold and Fannie Beard, and brothers, Perry Eckard and Alvia Eckard, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Sue Starnes Eckard; daughter, Venita Clontz and husband, Wayne; sons, Dennis Eckard and wife, Karen, and Lynn Eckard and wife, Melissa; brother, Landon Eckard and wife, Pauline; grandchildren, Josh Eckard, Michael Clontz, Jeff Eckard and Jason Eckard; great-grandchildren, Madelynn Clontz and Kendall Eckard; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Catawba Funerals & Cremations, with Pastors Mitch Wilson and Norman Hubbard officiating.

Burial will follow in Catawba Memorial Park, with military honors provided by American Legion Post 48.

Pallbearers will be Josh Eckard, Michael Clontz, Jeff Eckard, Jason Eckard, Van Starnes and James Starnes. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
