Flossie Ida Ellen Hafner Foster, the youngest daughter of George and Martha Wood Hafner, was born April 3, 1898 at Topaz, Missouri and departed this life on October 7, 1984 at West Plains Memorial Hospital, West Plains, Missouri after a lingering illness, being 86 years, six months and four days of age.

Flossie accepted Christ as her personal savior at an early age and became a member of the Mt. Ararat Missionary Baptist Church of the Mt. Ararat Community. She lived each day enjoying the hope of the wonderful promise that Christ left for each who would accept him.

Flossie was united in marriage to Earl Foster by Brother T.B. Minson on August 19, 1917. To this union was born a daughter, Voyle Foster. Flossie's husband answered the call to serve his county in World War 1 and on November 11, 1918 he was killed in action in France leaving a lovely wife and a young daughter, Voyle. Flossie and her daughter have spent many years living together. They lived in the Mt Ararat Community until 1955 then moved to Willow Springs, Missouri until the parting came Sunday morning by the Master's call.

Flossie was preceded in death by her husband Earl Foster, her parents, five brothers and eleven sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Voyle Foster, Willow Springs, Missouri, a great number of nephews and nieces and many friends.

Funeral services were 2 p.m. Wednesday, October 10, in the First General Baptist Church of Willow Springs with Rev.Donnie Morris officiating. Burial was in the City Cemetery at Willow Springs under direction of Elliot Gentry Funeral Home of Cabool.

With the death of Mrs. Flossie Hafner Poster in the West Plains Hospital early Sunday morning, October 7, 1984, the last of the large immediate family of the later George Hafner was gone. She was the youngest daughter and next to the youngest of his seventeen children.

The Hafner family grew up in the Topaz-Mt. Ararat Community, well known for their diligence, integrity and Christian fervor. Mrs. Foster chose a man of like reputation as her life partner, only to be widowed in less than two tears. Her husband, Earl Foster, was killed in action the day the Armistice ending World War 1 was signed. Word of the peach treaty did not reach the front lines in time to save his life.

The young couple's baby daughter, Voyle, was born in June, 1918, but she was destined to never know a father's love. Through the years she has been her mother's companion and cared for her faithfully and well during the last years.

Mrs. Foster leaves a number of nieces and nephews who, like her daughter, will remember her for her gentle nature, her concern for their well-being, and for her implicit faith. As the last of her families generation, her life can be an inspiration for the younger generation to continue the family tradition of serving God and their fellowmen.
