DEATH: Obituary - Leonard A. Krier
Leonard August Krier, age 94, of Moorhead, MN died November 9, 2007.
Leonard Krier was born in Odessa County, MN near Horseshoe Lake, to George and Gertrude (Faulk) Krier on June 1, 1913. He attended school district #48 near Ortonville, MN. He married Elvira (Buckle) Moe on August 25, 1957. They lived in Moorhead, MN. He enjoyed working with his brother Ervin and friends at NDSU. He would often recall the coffee breaks they took at the University Hasty Tasty. He also worked for H.V. Johnston Culvert Company for more than 40 years, retiring at age 83. He made many miles of pipe in those years. Early on, before marrying Elvira, Leonard had a brief, but rewarding career in baseball. He played third base for the Cardinals AAA Team in the 1930s. He was called to become a Red Sox player. On the first day of practice, he had the only asthma attack he had ever had in his life, putting a halt to his baseball career. There were not treatments at that time to allow athletes to continue to play with asthma. When the FM Redhawks played their first game at Jack Williams Stadium, he and Elvira were there, and he was a season ticket holder ever since.
He had many loves in his life: his wife of 40 years, Elvira; baseball (both the Redhawks and the Twins); woodworking (he made many gifts for Christmas and other occasions); horses; and watching Westerns. The Kriers took many trips together and with friends. He had many life-long friends.
He is survived by a stepson, Ronald Moe (Sally) Weslaco, TX; a stepdaughter, Charleen Parker (George) Moorhead, MN; stepdaughters-in-law, Jean Moe and Elena Moe, both of Fargo, ND; brothers, Ray Krier (Irene) Moorhead, MN; sister, Beatrice Olson, Moorhead, MN; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Victor and La Verne Johnson, Moorhead, MN, Lowell and Coral Laufenberg of Alice, ND and Deloris Buckle of Fargo, ND. Grandpa Krier loved every one of his 24 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, one great, great grandson, as well as his many nieces and nephews. They all returned his love and knew their grandpa was very special.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Elvira; stepson, Marlin Moe; stepdaughter, Norliss Buck; stepson-in-law, William Buck, Sr.; and a great step granddaughter, Crystal Buck; and a brother, Ervin Krier.
Visitation will be on Monday November 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Boulger Funeral Home with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m.
The funeral will be on Tuesday November 13, at 1:00 p.m. at Our Saviors Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.
Arrangements entrusted to Boulger Funeral Home.
