Menno E. Boshart, son of Peter and Catherine Erb Boshart, was born at Tavistock, Ontario, Canada on February 13, 1851. At the age of 16 he emigrated to the state of Indiana where he resided for about seven years. It was here that he united with the Mennonite church and entered the bond of holy matrimony. In 1874 the young couple moved to the state of Iowa and located on a farm about eight miles southeast of Wayland, where he became a very successful farmer. In the fall of 1896 he moved with his family to Wayland where he has resided ever since. He was interested and took an active part in everything that was for the betterment of the town and community. He was one of the charter members of the Wayland Mennonite church and served on the Board of Deacons for several years.
About a year ago Mr. Boshart's health began to fail but he was up and around most of the time until five weeks ago when he was taken to the University hospital at Iowa City where he was confined to his bed ever since. In spite of all that medical skill and loving hands could do, he quietly passed away on May 7, 1929 at the age of 78 years, 2 months and 24 days.
On March 30, 1873, he was united in marriage with Sophia Mehl with whom he was permitted to share life's joys and sorrows for more than 56 years. This union was blessed with seven children all of whom are still living.
Funeral services were held at the Wayland Mennonite church last Thursday afternoon in charge of the pastor who was assisted by Rev. J. J. Pritchard of the M. E. church. The services were attended by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Burial was made in the family lot in North Hill cemetery. -- Wayland News.
