In 1863, Thomas and Mary Elliott were living east of the Tippah River in Benton Co., TN. When her husband, Thomas Elliott died in 1863, the river was frozen over and they had to use a sled to transport his body across the river to bury him at Liberty Cemetery. When Mary died in 1902, the Tippah River had flooded and she could not be buried beside her husband at Liberty, so she was buried at Pine Grove Cemetery, east of the Tippah River.
