At the time of George's death, the 205th Penna. Vol. Inf. was part of the 2nd Brigade, 3rd Division, IX Corps, Army of the Potomac, and was engaged in Dinwiddie County, VA during the 1864-1865 siege of Petersburg.
He died in the Regimental Hospital of "Typho. Mal. fever" [Typhomalarial Fever — an archaic description of a form of fever having symptoms both of malaria and typhoid fever]. The regiment lost, during its service, 3 Officers and 37 Enlisted men killed and mortally wounded and 17 Enlisted men by disease (including George). Total 57.
He does not appear in Bates or the muster rolls in the Pennsylvania State Archives.
