Born in Allentown, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Henry Clauss and Melva Ellen (nee Helfrich) Ettinger. As an infant, Ruth was baptized at Grace Evangelical Congregational Church in Allentown, Pennsylvania on November 30, 1924. This was the same church in which she married her husband on July 11, 1943, the vows overseen by the Rev. Allen Z. Bodey. At her passing, she was a member of East Hampton Congregational Church.
She was survived by her husband, and her sons, Roy L. Jr. of Bloomfield, Conn., Robert of Sturbridge, Mass., and Roger of Windsor, Conn.; brother Edwin of Bethlehem; sisters, Lucille Romberger and Jane Hunt of Rancho Palos Verdes, Calif., and five grandchildren.
Services were in the church. Arrangements, Spencer Funeral Home, East Hampton.
My mom told me that when Ruth was born, her paternal grandma Emma lobbied for her name to be given to the baby. Not fond of the name, Ruth's parents placated Emma by making it Ruth's middle name.
