He was married to Eva Ethelina (Conaway) Bateson and they had one daughter, Barbara Jean. She married David S. Maule and their union produced seven children.
Harold, as he liked to be called, worked over 30 years at Armco Steel in Zanesville, OH. Because of the company becoming automated, Harold was forced to retire at age 62.
A quiet and gentle man, he was active in the Masonic order and spent much time tending his garden in Crooksville before he and Eva moved to Zanesville.
He died Feb. 6, 1994 and is buried next to his wife in Iliff Cemetery near Crooksville, OH.
