Funeral services for Alma Jane Broers, 91, Eudora, will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary—Eudora Chapel. Burial will follow in Eudora Cemetery.
Mrs. Broers died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2008, at Medicalodges in Eudora.
She was born Oct. 15, 1917, in Idana, the daughter of John W. and Lizzie M. Gallagher Baker. She graduated from Longford High School.
Mrs. Broers worked as a young adult at the Gage Ranch, where she helped clean and cook. She later worked as a cook at the Kaw Valley School. She was also a homemaker.
She was a member of Eudora United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Circle. She was also a member of Weaver HDU, 1900 and Now Club, Rebekah Lodge and a 4-H leader in sewing and cooking. She enjoyed baking cookies and needlework, and could preserve all types of foods.
She married Kermit E. Broers on July 27, 1940, in Oak Hill. He died July 19, 2007. They shared nearly 67 years of marriage.
Survivors include a daughter, Jane Lynn Boyer and husband Michael, Longford; two sons, James S., Mission, and John K. and wife Laura, Eudora; a sister, Florence L. Baker, Oak Hill; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Broers was preceded in death by four brothers and two sisters.
