He was a piercer driller at the US Steel National Tube Plant in McKeesport, PA and had worked for US Steel for 49 years. He began work in steel mills in McKeesport (and for a brief time at Elwood City, PA) at the age of 14.

During World War II he served as an Air Raid Warden for Versailles Twp. (now White Oak, PA).

He was a Deacon, Elder, Financial Secretary, Sunday School Teacher, Chairman of the Elders, and Chairman of the Board during the years of his membership at the Bryn Mawr Church of Christ in White Oak, PA.

He was a voracious reader.

Husband of Elizabeth Dingeldein and Genevieve B. Brakeall Owston.
