HER OBITUARY IS IN THE LEEDY OBITUARIES IN THE KEEPING OF THE MINNILUSA HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION IN RAPID CITY SD.
She was born to James Harvey Payton and Rebecca Ann Thomas Payton. Her father died in 1864 in the Civil War her mother married George Doud he died in 1911 in Rapid City, her mother died in 1904 in Rapid City. She had siblings both Payton and Doud.
She spent her girlhood in Minnesota and Kansas. As a young woman she went to Colorado She was married to Victor C Anderson on Jan 16, 1880 in Leadville CO, and they came to Rapid City in 1890.
The Anderson's ranched in Rapid Valley for three years before moving to Rapid City in 1893. For many years the Anderson's lived in the big house at the corner of Ninth and Fulton streets, and that home was a gathering place for the young people while the Anderson family of ten children was growing up. Victor died in 1924.
Emma was a kindly woman, and while her first interest was always her home and family she found plenty of time to perform many neighborly deeds of kindness, and was always on hand to help anyone in trouble.
In her passing the community has lost another of those staunch pioneers who helped build this city, and make it a good place to live. She will be missed by many.
Surviving are six sons, Frank in Wichita KS, Amil in Casper WY,Payton, Warren and Richard in Midland TX and Victor in Rapid City; and three daughters,Gertrude, Mrs S C Young of Dalphine AL, Edna, Mrs Ralph Gordon and Ninna, Mrs Floyd Drickey of Rapid City SD.
She is also survived by 19 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren.
Siblings, Edward,and James Payton and Frank, Olive and Benjamin Doud.
Emma was a member of the Baptist Church and Women's Relief corps. She had been active in civil affairs and church affairs in Rapid City for many years.
Funeral services will be held a 2pm Tuesday in the Baptist Church. Rev Chalmer Wiseman will officiate. The family requests no flowers and asks that money be donated to the polio fund in lieu of flowers.
Pallbearers were Fred Hammerquist, Ralph McMahon, Arthur Hamm, Julian Morris, Earl Traut, John Hall, and George Sanders.
