Adeline Eliza Wilber was the oldest of five children (Adeline, DeForest, Charlotte "Lottie", Arminda & Celeste) born to William George Wilber (1809-1883)and Ann Maria Collins (1825-1858). Her mother was a Quaker by birthright.
Her maternal grandparents were Sheffield Collins (1793 - 1824) and Eliza Knowles Collins Scarritt (1789 - 1881) Paternal grandparents were: Ann Maria Collins Wilber (1825 - 1858) Theda Loomis (1805 - 1887).
Adeline grew up in Smyrna, Chenango County, New York and was a Quaker. Her father was a farmer.
On March 15, 1866 she married ABRAM HENRY KNOWLES, son of Henry Anthony Knowles (Rhode Island) and Mary (Knowles) Collins (Smyrna, New York) . Adeline and Abram, went west to Humboldt County, IA as did 3 of Abram's brothers.
Adeline was the first school teacher in Livermore, IA with sixteen students.
Abram Henry Knowles and Adeline Eliza Wilber had eight children.
