Damon E. Byers, 74, of Medaryville, died September 21, 2003 at Rensselaer Care Center, Rensselaer. He was born September 17, 1929 in Lafayette, Ind., the son of Harry A. and Mabel C. (Anderson) Byers, who preceded him in death.
He is survived by two sisters, Luella M. Alkire of Medaryville and June Shepard of Culver and a half sister, Carolyn Sue Little of Michigan City.
He served as an Army Medic in the Korean Conflict and was employed as a teacher. He was a member of Medaryville Christian Church in Medaryville. He worked as a cutter in the former Medaryville Garment Factory. He taught electronics in Detroit, Mich. and had worked in the state penitentiaries in Michigan City and Westville. He also worked as a bank guard in LaPorte. He was a member of American Legion Post in Medaryville. He loved spending time with his dogs.
Funeral services, James Ketchen officiating are scheduled at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 25 at Querry-Ulbricht Funeral Home. Interment, with American Legion military graveside services will be at Independence Cemetery, Medaryville.
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Querry-Ulbricht, 232 Brooks St., Francesville, Ind.
Memorials may be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
