Houston a/k/a "Doc" by the Hartman side of the family and as "Gate" by the Foster side of the family. The Hartman's called him "Doc" because he was named after the doctor that delivered him. The Foster's called him "Gate" because when he would walk my grandmother home from school he would stand on the gate and swing back and fourth while they were talking. He married Vera Iva Lois Foster and they had the following children; Houston "Inkey" Tanksley, Jr., Alta Lois, Sandra Elizabeth, Samuel "Butch" Lucian, Shela Elaine, and Lloyd "Jinx" Dwight Hartman. Their marriage ended in divorce. Gate was the son of Lucian Johnson & Lena Beatrice Kimbro Hartman. He served in the US Army, and never remarried after his divorce.
