William Penn Adams was the son of Holland Garner and Cornelius F. Adams.

He married first in Morehead City, Carteret Co., North Carolina, December 10, 1874, Sarah Lavinia Willis, #30723404, daughter of Rhoda W. Piner and Josiah Willis. Sarah was born in North Carolina, March 30, 1856; died January 3, 1881; buried at Adams Farm Cemetery, Crab Point Village, Carteret Co., NC.

He married second second in Morehead City, Carteret Co., North Carolina, May 9, 1885, Mary Catherine “Katie or Mazy” Lepper, findagrave #30735626, daughter of Jemima A. Preet, findagrave #32965108, and Phillip Lepper, findagrave #32965109. She was born in New Berne, Craven Co., NC, September 15, 1854; died in Morehead City, Carteret Co., NC, widowed, aged 85, November 16, 1939; buried at Bayview Cemetery, Morehead City, NC, November 17, 1939, in same plot as four infant children and son Bryon L. Adams.

William and Sarah are listed in the 1880 US Census in Morehead City, NC, as Wm. P. Adams, 30, Farmer; Sarah, wife, 22; Marietta, daughter, 2.

William and Mary are listed in the 1900 US Census in Morehead City, NC, as William, 51, b. NC Jan. 1849, m. 12 yrs, Merchant; Mary, 45, b. NC Sep. 1854, 3 of 7 children living; Perly, 10, b. NC Aug. 1889; Bryan, 6, b. NC Jul. 1893; Elsie M. 7/12, b. NC Nov. 1899.

His death certificate reads that he was a self-employed Merchant; died at age 70 years, 11 months, 1 day, of Chronic Cardiac Disease; and was buried at Adams Cemetery December 12, 1919.
