In the 1920 U. S. Census the Amidons were counted at their Battle Creek, Michigan home at 292 Washington Avenue North. It looks like they owned the apartment building where they lived and three other families were renting from them. Listed in the household were: Walter H., 24, automobile mechanic, Margaret D., 20, Irving C., 3 1/2, and Dorothy F., 2.
In 1930 Irving and his divorced father were located at Santa Cruz, California. The census taker mistakenly spelled their last name Amivon. Walter H. Amidon found work as a laborer at a lumber yard and bought a home at 431 Broadway, Santa Cruz. Irving's sister, Dorothy, was also living in Santa Cruz but with her mother, Margaret, and her new husband, Julius R. Studeman. Their address was about 2 1/2 miles away at 327 California Street. Mr. Studeman was a grocery store merchant.
