He lived for a time in the area of Cascade, Idaho and eventually homsteaded in the eastern part of Idaho. He also ran a pack train taking supplies into the Idaho mines. Monte arrived in the Hood River valley where he worked for Jeannie Fox Miller on her fruit ranch. It was there that he met Ruth Miller, whom he married in June 1915. Monte and Ruth left the Hood River Valley briefly, but returned in 1918
In 1922 the family moved to Prineville where they resided until Ruth passed away. Monte brought his family once more to the Hood River Valley.
Monte married his second wife, Bessie Cunningham Losier in 1937.
Eventually they moved again, this time going to a mine near Stayton, Oregon, only to return once again for the last time.
Monte died in Odell, Oregon.
