Donald Zielke, 74, of Alexis, Illinois, passed away at 12:11 p.m. on Monday, February 25, 2008 at St. Frances Medical Center in Peoria, Illinois. He was born on October 18, 1933, in Monmouth, Illinois, the son of Fred W. and Pearl Smith Zielke. At the age of 4, Don's family moved to the Alexis area. He attended rural schools, Alexis High School, and graduated in 1951. He then went to Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois.

Don married Reva Icenogle on August 5, 1977, in Galesburg, Illinois. She survives.

Don first sold seed for the Grace Company near Rozetta. He then worked as a plumber for Harold Jerden. Don was then employed by International Mineral and Chemical Plant as manager, at the North Henderson plant. Lastly he worked at M & W Ag Service in Alexis as assistant manager. He retired in 1996. Don was a member of Lodge # 37 A.F.&A.M., Norwood United Presbyterian Church, where he served as trustee. He enjoyed conversation with anyone and is a member of the BB Cafe. His first love is his family, children and grandchildren. He enjoyed model trains, and he loved dogs, especially Hutch.

Survivors include his wife, Reva M. Zielke of Alexis, two daughters; Valerie Quick and Scott of Viola, Illinois, and Patricia Murrie and Charles of Rock Falls, Illinois. Three sons; John D. Zielke and Chris of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Ronald Faulkner and Janice of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Rod L. Faulkner and Sharon of Lincoln, Nebraska. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, and four brothers.

Services: A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, February 29, 2008, at the Norwood United Presbyterian Church. Friends may call on Thursday, February 28, 2008, at Turnbull Funeral Home in Monmouth, where his family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Memorials can be made to the Norwood United Presbyterian Church.
