Kathie and Robert "Pic" Warren were united in marriage June 11, 1954, at the Church of the Brethren, Beatrice, by the Rev. Swigart Miller. They joyfully celebrated their 50th wedding reunion on the beach in Florida with all of their family around them. Kathie was a Navy wife and mother, making a comfortable home for her family wherever they were stationed. Currently, she was a faithful member of the Wymore United Methodist Church; but her church activities throughout her life included teaching Sunday school, preparing elements for communion, teaching Vacation Bible School, being a church pianist-organist, youth leader and officer in CBYF, and was a member of WSCS. She was active with the scouting program as Cub Scout Den mother in Wellsville, Kan., and assistant Cub Scout Leader in Bridgewater, Mass., and Algonquin, Ill. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and cherished her volunteer work and dear friends at the Wymore Library, where she was also a member of Friends of the Wymore Library.
Kathie worked for the Paddock Hotel in Beatrice, People's Natural Gas company, the family-owned business in Wymore (Bob's Service), as a school cook in Crystal Lake, Ill., and in the nursing and dietary departments of the Wymore Good Samaritan Center for 10 years. She enjoyed Country and Western music, reading (especially biographies), crossword puzzles, Scrabble, bird-watching, playing the piano, games of chance, including cards and slots and a friendly game of pool. Kathie especially treasured her time and visits with family and friends, as well as traveling to Germany, South America, England, and to give the stamp of approval at the birth of each of her 15 grandchildren She enjoyed cooking and baking special treats for her family, and will be remembered for her love and many special ways with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Robert W. Warren of Wymore; and their children, Robert W. Warren (Graciela) of Round Hill, Va., Deborah K. Cupp (Lynn) of Virginia Beach, Va., Gerald A. Warren of Bartow, Fla., Fredrick W. Warren (Ann) of Cartersville, Ga., Susan D. Guthrie (Joseph) of Wichita, Kan., Dawn L. Carsey (Tom) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Dan J. Warren (Karen) of Lehigh Acres, Fla.; sister, Irma Hellbusch (Ron) of Westminster, Colo.; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother, Donald.
A funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, October 11, 2008, at the Wymore United Methodist Church, followed by burial at the Wymore Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Laughlin-Hoevet Funeral Home in Wymore, and at the church one hour preceding the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Wymore Public Library, Beatrice Community Hospice, or the Wymore United Methodist Church.
