George S. Long, 87, of Amarillo died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in American Legion Post 54, 617 W. Seventh Ave., with the Rev. John Benson, pastor of Unity Church, officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Mr. Long was born June 16, 1921, in Clovis, N.M., to William and Eula Long. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Korean War. He retired as an Army officer after 24 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 54. He was a Mason and a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. Long also was a member of Unity Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Long.

Survivors include a son, Michael Long of Amarillo; a daughter, Marcine Mushock of San Antonio; two grandchildren, Kelly Looney and Nancy Hill; and two great-grandchildren, Cruz and Wynne.

The family suggests memorials be to American Legion Post 54, 617 W. Seventh Ave., Amarillo, TX 79101.

The family will receive friends prior to services at 1 p.m. Friday at American Legion Post 54.
