Pete was the last one to farm the Pletcher farm before it was taken over by the Army Corps of Engineers. He was the last of those evicted by the Sayers Dam project to leave his home. He received his eviction notice 12Dec1967 (5 days before his 75th birthday) and had to be out by 2Jan1968. Anything remaining on the property would then become the property of the US government. The electricity and telephone were turned off. The hold up was that his new home was not yet completed and he had nowhere to go; that contractor was building 7 different homes for those losing theirs to the project. In addition to losing his farm, Pete was also on the board of trustees for Schenck Cemetery, which was also being relocated. His farming partner - his nephew Edwin, Edwin's in-laws, and his sister Josephine were also losing their farms/homes to the project. Prior to relocation Pete had never lived anywhere other than the Pletcher farm where he had been born. He died within the year he was forced off the farm.
