Edna Moody, 86, of Avoca died Tuesday, October 14, 2008 at St. Clare Hospice House in Baraboo. She was born April 24, 1922 the daughter of Edward & Ida (Radditz) Post at Leland, WI town of Honey Creek in Sauk County born on her parents wedding anniversary.

Edna spent her early years in Leland & attended country school there. She continued to keep close ties to Leland & Denzer as many relatives lived in the area. Edna spent summer vacations at her grandmothers and at her uncle's farm the natural bridge area. She was also confirmed at the Lutheran church in Leland. She later moved to Spring Green area where she completed grade school and graduated from the Spring Green High School.

She married Vernon "Pete" Moody on September 13, 1941 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Avoca. Edna attended Richland Teachers College in Richland Center and received her Bachelor's of Science degree in elementary teaching at the University of Platteville. She taught in the River Valley School District at Clyde and Lone Rock for many years. Also she was a member of the retired teacher group in Richland Center. She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Avoca and taught Sunday school and served on the council for many terms. She and her sister Gloria operated the St. Johns Goodwill Store in Avoca after her retirement from teaching. She has been a member of the American Legions Auxiliary Frank O' Brien Unit for over 50 years. She loved to travel the back roads of SW Wisconsin and enjoyed the wildlife in the country.

Survivors include: One foster daughter, Nancy (John) Betts of Avoca; A sister, Gloria Sturdevant of Avoca; A brother, Wilbert Post of Potosi; Sisters-in-law, Maxine Hamm of Mazomanie and Sarah (Dougherty) Post of Waterloo; A number of nieces, nephews, closeness to nieces Sharon Burbach and Arletta Wardell; and a host of friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant daughters Myrna and Marlene; brothers Marvin, Doug, LeRoy, Milton and sisters Ruth and infant Laura.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. John's Lutheran Church in Avoca with Reverend Steven Schneider officiating. Burial will be held at the Avoca Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday, October 17, 2008 from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the Godager Funeral Home in Muscoda, where an American Legion Auxiliary Service will be held at 4:45 PM.

Friends may also call on Saturday, October 18, 2008 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Avoca from 10:00 AM until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 AM.

The Godager Funeral Home of Muscoda is assisting the family with their arrangements.
