Esther Isabell "E.I." Curtis Dodson was the daughter of Rachel Starr and Joseph H. Curtis.

She and husband Benjamin Franklin "Ben" Dodson were farmers, and raised cattle and sheep. She was a very savvy businesswoman, and actually made most of the business decisions. She always used the name "E.I.", and signed all the documents, checks etc., with this moniker.
She and Ben separated when their youngest daughter was little, which would have been around 1900. She ran the farm/ranch by herself until her daughter, Lilly Pearl married Joseph Lytle Duncan, and he was her ranch hand, with both Pearl and Joseph Lytle living with her. She actually probably had help from the many family members living close by. The ranch was in Mills County, in the Payne Gap area, and is still in the family today.

Widowed, she died at age 78 yrs, 6 months and 3 days. Her parents resided in Harrison County, Texas before moving to Mills County, Tx.

She died of Infuenza with complications of Pneumonia. E.I. got the flu, had preachers come by and 'put hands on her", an old belief in healing. It turned into Pneumonia and she died at home. The doctors were far away, and they didn't call the doctor for these things in those years.
