HAMPDEN - Shirley Marie (Clifford) Adams, 56, of 123 Heather Way, Hampden, passed away after a long illness on April 4, 2004, at a local hospital, with her son and sister by her side. Shirley was born Oct. 14, 1947, in Waterville, the youngest child of Bert G. and Coral (Berkeley) Clifford of Unity. Shirley had been a resident of Avalon Village in Hampden for three years. She would like to say good-by and thanks for the friendship of her many friends at Avalon Village, especially Vicky Rockwell who looked in on Shirley every day.

She attended Mt. View School in Thorndike, and graduated from the former Oak Grove Academy in Augusta. Shirley moved to Portland and graduated from Pierre's Beauty School where she worked and later operated her own beauty parlor. Shirley was always drawn to the warmer weather of Florida and spent many years at Indian Rocks Beach. She loved to fish and walk with her dogs on the beach.

Shirley was predeceased by her brother, Gregory Clifford in 1995; and her father, Bert G. Clifford in 2001, both of Unity.

She is survived by her mother, Coral B. Clifford of Unity and Marco Island, Fla.; her only child, Cullen G. Oxton and his wife, Bonnie, of Windham; her granddaughter, Laura Domigan and soon to be grandson, Logan C. Oxton, who is due April 8; and her sister, C-J O'Connor and husband, Rick, of Bangor. Shirley will miss her companion of the last 10 years, a poodle named Curly Sue and cat Abigale.

A memorial service is planned for later in May at the Lawry Brothers Memorial and Remembrance Centre (Unity Centre for the Performing Arts) 42 Depot Street, Unity. Condolences may be expressed at www.lawrybrothers.com.
