DIED - Frank H. Burch dies Suddenly of Heart Attack (15 Feb 1958)
Was Stricken While Walking in Yard at the Home of his Daughter

Frank H. Burch, widely known Boulder County pioneer, was stricken with a heart attack at 8 this morning while walking in the yard of the home of his daughter, Mrs. B.F. (Wanda) Armstead, 2357 Grove. An ambulance took him to the Community Hospital where it was found that death had occurred probably at the time he fell.

Mr. Burch made his home with his daughter and her family. He was born on a farm near Hygiene, Oct. 11, 1872, which his father, William Wallace Burch, had homesteaded. His parents had crossed the plains in 1862 and homesteaded at Pella, a community on the St. Vrain river that ceased to exist with the development of Hygiene a short distance to the north.

When Mr. Burch was one year old the pioneer home was destroyed by fire and the parents moved to Sunshine which was enjoying a mining boom. There his father operated a livery stable and a freight business. Frank attended his first school in Sunshine and lived there until he was 10. The family at that time moved back to the homestead and neighbors helped them to construct a new home.

After finishing his schooling at Hygiene Mr. Burch became a rancher and a thresher. Later in 1917 he acquired a ranch on Lee Hill which he operated until retiring some 20 years ago.

Mr. Burch was married to Nellie Cochran, a member of a pioneer family, in Hygiene in 1894. Her death occurred April 9, 1934. Surviving Mr. Burch are the daughter, Mrs. Armstead; three grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. A brother, Robert Burch, of Longmont also survives. A son, [William] James Burch, died during the influenza epidemic in 1918 and a daughter, Mrs. Grace Clemens, in 1925.

He was a member of the Hygiene Lodge I.O.O.F. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the Geddes-Hibbard Mortuary. Dr. Ralph Evans, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the family lot in the Hygiene Cemetery.
