James A "Jimmy" Summersett, Jr. passed away August 1, 1993 at Canyon Lake, Texas.

Jimmy was born on June 23, 1928 at Fort Russell, Cheyenne, Wyoming. After moving to San Antonio in 1941, Jimmy graduated from Alamo Heights High School in 1948 where he was an accomplished athlete in football and track and was chosen Outstanding Athlete during his junior year. Jimmy served in the A.F. during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged with a rank of Staff-Sergeant in 1952.

He was employed as Chief Pilot with the Dee Howard Company for sixteen years and with Rawcon De Costa Rica for ten years. In 1968 he co-founded Custom Craft, Inc., an aviation parts and furniture manufacturing company where he served as president and chief executive officer. In 1980, Jimmy founded Custom Aircraft Conversions, Inc., which specialized in the development and manufacturing of innovative, private aircraft, conversion products. Custom Aircraft Conversions held eleven supplemental type certificates issued by the Federal Aviation Administration including the world famous, "Texas Tail Dragger." In 1983, Jimmy co-founded J & S Engineering, which developed and manufactured a 150 and 180 horsepower engine conversion kit for Cessna aircraft.

In addition to being an accomplished pilot and president of three corporations, he also served in the capacity of Federal Aviation Administration pilot proficiency examiner. He had over 23,000 hours as pilot-in-command of various categories and types of fixed wing aircraft.

Jimmy spent much of his spare time designing, building and flying model airplanes, a hobby which he began at the age of five. Over the years, this cherished hobby brought him national acclaim, a collection of over three hundred trophies, four national records and one international record. He was a member of the Tri-City Free Flight Team for over ten years.

Jimmy lived in San Antonio, Texas until 1990 when and his wife, Joan, moved to Canyon Lake.
