"Mrs. Bessie Flora Cates, age 76 died at 5:15 p.m. Monday 10-17-1960 at St. Elizabeth Hospital, Danville Ill where she had been a patient five days. She had been in ill health for several years.

She was born November 19, 1983 in Cates, the daughter of William A. and Melinda Clark Summers. She was married January 20, 1907 to Robert Cates who preceded her in death September 15, 1943.

She was a member of the Cates EUB Church, Gessie Ladies Aid, Yeddo Chapter 313 Order of Eastern Star and Ever Green Camp 1656 Royal Neighbors of America of Gessie. She had been a resident of Gessie for 12 years and prior to that time had resided in Cates.

Mrs. Cates is survived by 5 children: Mrs. Nixola Ervin of Danville, Route 4; Mrs. Melinda Kelch of Gessie; Mrs. Lestine Johnson of Tangier Route 1; Willard of Cates and Millard of Covington Route 3; 12 grandchildren; 3 greats and one half brother, Claude Summers of Attica. She was preceded in death by one daughter, three sister and four brothers.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. Thurs at the Gessie EUB Church with Rev. CE Parks officiating. Burial in Kingman Fraternal cemetery." - Kingman Star, Kingman, Indiana, October 27, 1960
