James Edward Nettles of Smith Point died at his home September 11, 2008 with his beloved family by his side.

He was born May 7, 1937 in Lincoln County, Mississippi the son of Walter Edward Nettles and Elizabeth Norwood Nettles. He worked a variety of jobs, last working in the Oil Field Production Industry, he was the proudest however, of his years with Coca-Cola. James was an active member with his wife of the First Baptist Church in Anahuac.

He was preceded in death by his father, Walter Edward Nettles, son Richard Nettles, daughter Debra Cobb and a sister Joyce Butler.

Graveside Services for James Edward Nettles, of Smith Point, Texas, were 1 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 25, at Jackson Cemetery in Smith Point. Sterling Funeral Home in Anahuac, Texas, was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Nettles died Sept. 11, 2008, at his residence. He was born in Lincoln County on May 7, 1937, to Walter Edward Nettles and Elizabeth Norwood Nettles. He worked a variety of jobs with his last job being in the oil field production industry. He was the proudest, however, of his years with Coca-Cola. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Anahuac.
Preceding him in death were his father; a son, Richard Nettles; a daughter, Debra Cobb; and a sister, Joyce Butler. Survivors are his mother; his wife, Betty Joyce Gau Nettles, of Smith Point; his sons, Patrick and Paul Nettles; a brother, Jeff Nettles; his sisters, Peggy Smith, Kathleen Garren and Becky Furlow; his five grandchildren; his three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
