Zadie E. Abernathy
Graveside services for Zadie E. Abernathy, 88, of San Angelo, will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 24, in Fairmount Cemetery with Rev. Homer Walkup, son-in-law, officiating.
Mrs. Abernathy died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Brownwood Regional Hospital.
Zadie was born Aug. 23, 1915, in Robert Lee, to Charlie and Lucy Hopson Livermon. She married James T. "Jack" Abernathy on Jan. 12, 1935 in Eden. He passed away in March of 1973. Zadie was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for 40 years. She was a past Noble Grand, past Lodge Deputy, and past District Deputy. She was a member of the L.A.P.M. and past State President of L.A.P.M. for the State of New Mexico. She also received the Decoration of Chivalry. Zadie did 16 years of volunteer work for the San Angelo Senior Citizens before she had to quit due to bad health.
She is survived by her daughters; Betty Kennedy of Brownwood, Dorothy Walkup and husband Homer of Lake Dallas and Kaye Kennedy and husband Mark of Lovington, N.M.; sisters; Annie Ashford and Ona Downhour, both of San Angelo and Mae Black of Crane; seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Zadie was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brothers; Dan, Ben and Fred Livermon.
