‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ NAMPA—Joel Vilah Carpenter, 73, Nampa, route 4, died Friday in a local hospital after an extended illness.
‎ ‎ ‎ Mr. Carpenter, a farmer in the area until ill health forced his retirement, was born Jan. 22, 1876, in Springview, Neb., and moved to Clarinda, Iowa, when a small boy, then going to Portland when he was 18 and residing there until moving to the Meridian area. He was married in Caldwell in 1932 and his wife, Ruby Carpenter, survives him. Mr. Carpenter farmed in the Deer Flat and Franklin communities for a number of years.
‎ ‎ ‎ Other survivors include three sons, Clyde of Sunnyside, Wash., Ivan Carpenter, Sacramento, Calif., and Earl Post, Caldwell; three daughters, Mrs. Ethlyn Powell in Montana, Mrs. Genevieve Mayling, Sunnyside, and Mrs. Archie Diggs, Nampa; three sisters, Mrs. Othaie Gardner, Portland, Osyth Carpenter, Portland, and Mrs. Vida Robison, Santa Rosa, Calif.; 14 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
‎ ‎ ‎ Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Alsip chapel. Dr. William B. Millen will officiate. Interment will be at Kohlerlawn.
