Doris L.J. Abarno, 85, a Washington area resident since 1954 who was a member of Wesley Methodist Church in Washington, died of multiple myeloma July 17 at Washington Hospice. She lived in the District.
Mrs. Abarno, who was born in Michigan, served with the American Red Cross in England during World War II. After the war, she did administrative work with the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration and then the Army in the Far East, where she was an administrative aide to Gen. Douglas MacArthur, before coming to Washington.
Her husband, Charles, whom she married in 1949, died in 1981.
Survivors include two daughters, Carla Jean Abarno of Washington and Sharon Abarno McArtin of Peekskill, N.Y.; her twin brother, Donald Jenkins of Swartz Creek, Mich.; and two grandsons.
