ROBERT FARNSWORTH, 81, of Braintree died October 4 in the company of family at his home after a long period of failing health. Robert was born in Randolph, on August 17, 1927, the son of Alton & Vera (Jones) Farnsworth. While attending Randolph High School, he played basketball for the Galloping Ghosts. After graduation in 1945, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Airforce and served in Okinawa as an EOD specialist. Bob drove a milk truck for Kelton, and was a loading dock attendant for Claflin Grain. He then worked for Randolph Furniture, which later became Ethan Allen, for forty years before retiring. He served as cemetery commissioner for Braintree, and mowed the cemeteries for a number of years. He also coached and managed Randolph Babe Ruth teams, and umpired Little League games. Bob enjoyed camping (NAFCA) with family and friends, and traveled through most of the 48 states and the Maritimes. While at home he loved to work with wood in his basement workshop. He enjoyed watching sports (especially boxing) on television and traveling to many of his grandson's ball games. Robert was always active, putting together puzzles, playing a game of cards, or mowing the yard. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Verlie (Clark) Farnsworth of Braintree; sons, Ernie (Beth) Farnsworth, of Rotonda West, FL, Phillip Farnsworth of Braintree, Todd Farnsworth of Swanzey, NH; daughters, Janet (Eric) Sanders of Morrisville, and Amy Wright of Cambridge, VT; brothers, Herbert Farnsworth of Randolph, Paul (Eleanor) Farnsworth of Spartanburg, SC; sister, Idella (Warren) Preston of Randolph Center; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
