NEWTON —
Lorene A. Warkentin, 82, of Newton, passed away Thursday (Oct. 2, 2008) at Via Christi Regional Medical Center-St. Francis campus in Wichita.
She was born Oct. 29, 1925, in Newton to Arthur and Amelia (Unruh) Schmidt. They preceded her in death.
On June 16, 1946, she married Dale G. Warkentin in Elbing. He preceded her in death on Feb. 16, 2002.
Lorene was a member of First Mennonite Church in Newton. She looked forward to spending time with her friends and loving family.
She is survived by a son, and two grandsons.
She also was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Schmidt.
A graveside service was Monday at Restlawn Gardens of Memory in rural Newton, followed by funeral service at First Mennonite Church in Newton, with Pastor Clarence Rempel of the church officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to First Mennonite Church in care of the funeral home.
