Mary H. Applegate Dunagan
Who can find a Virtuous woman for her price is far above rubies.
Strength and honor are her clothing, and she shall rejoice in time to come.
She opened her mouth with wisdom and her tongue is the law of kindness,
She looketh well to the way of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
Her children arise up and call blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
Many daughters have virtuously, but thou excelest them all.
Favor is deceitful, and beauty in vain: But a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.
Mary H. Allee Applegate, daughter of William and Malenda Reed Allee was born Sept. 15 1862 in Putnam County. In her girlhood days she united with the Alaska Christan Church, where she ever retained her membership. In the year of 1879, she was united in married Bland B. Applegate. To this union were born nine children all of whom survive, but one son, Ernest who passed away at the age of three. She and her husband spent their married life in Owen County.
On Dec. 12 1914 the husband and father was called beyond.
Sept 15 1932 she was again united in marriage to John Dunagan and with him, made her home in Spencer.
She was a devoted mother and a loving wife, always placing the welfare of her family first.
She had been in failing health for some time, but was visiting in the home of her daughter. Mrs Corna Stierwalt in Indianapolis and passed away suddenly, May 5 1937 at the age of 74 years 7 months 20 days.
She leaves to morn their loss the husband John Dunagan of Spencer. eight children, Mrs Etta Wright of Gosport Mrs Metta Stierwalt, Indianapolis, Omer, Earl, Elmer and Oral Applegate, Mrs Lola Stierwalt and Mrs Lora Shuler all living in and near Paragon. Also 23 grandchildren 14 Great-Grandchildren. One sister Mrs. Isabell Wright near Hall, three brothers John and Thomas Allee of Quincy and Grant Allee of Paragon.
The Husband one son, eight grandchildren, two brothers and one sister have preceded her in death.
