Lauretta "Ret" Swonger, 86, of Spooner in Casey township, died on Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Spooner Health System.

Lauretta May Olson was born on March 16, 1922, in Milwaukee to Alfred Anton and Evaline Cordetta (Lackershire) Olson. She attended a rural country school in the Trego area and as a child moved to the town of Casey in the Spooner area where she resided her entire life.

Lauretta was united in marriage on January 11, 1939, at Trego to Edward E. Swonger. He died on April 3, 1986.

She loved doing crossword puzzles, watching game shows, singing and listening to music and quoting scriptures from the Bible.

Survivors include her children, Virginia Correll of Spooner, Ed (Kay) Swonger of Spooner, Russell (Shelly) Swonger of Spooner, Roy (Joyce Kapp) Swonger of New Richmond, Geraldine "Jerri" (Dale) Blanchette of Spooner, and Gerald "Jerry" (Donna Ritter) Swonger of Spooner; 14 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Anton (May) Olson of Spooner, Phillip Richie of Indiana, and Eugene (Arlene) Richie of Grand Marsh; sisters, Marion Engle of Colfax, and Grace Swonger of Shawano; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by son, Vernon; daughter, Helen; great-grandsons, Christopher and James; granddaughter, Jessica; and sister, Alice Swonger.

The funeral was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Oct. 3, at Dahl Funeral Home in Spooner. Pastor James Frisby officiated.

Visitation was from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at the funeral home and from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday prior to the service.

Interment was in Rocky Ridge Cemetery.

Casket bearers were Ben Berg, Don Blanchette, Kerry Schneider, Steve Schneider Jr., Travis Swonger and Troy Swonger.

Honorary bearers were Justin Blanchette, Dean Correll, Shayne Swonger, Billy Joe Trepanier and Jay J. Trepanier.
