She was born in Antwerp, Belgium and has been a longtime Charleston resident.
She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
Maria is survived by her husband of 49 years, Louis Sherrer, a son, Jimmy Sherrer of Charleston, two daughters, Betty Ann Scott of Charleston, Linda Myzell of Ridgeville and five grandchildren, Ryan Sherrer, Tracy Scott, Ashley Sherrer, Alex and Lauren Kirby.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation on Tuesday, 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. with a Vigil Service beginning at 6PM at McALISTER-SMITH FUNERAL HOME, DOWNTOWN CHAPEL 150 Wentworth St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held 10:00AM, Wednesday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church with burial in Live Oak Memorial Gardens.
