Vestel was the son of Benjamin Franklin Borders and Jane A McCoy. He married Alta Leota Hart (1861 IA) on 15 May 1884 in Carroll Co., Iowa. They were the parents of Pearl (1884) and William H (1892). He married Rachel Elizabeth Hilton Fleck in 1899. They were the parents of Clifford (1898) and Claude (1901). Rachel drowned in 1903 in a MN lake along with her daughter, Alice Hurd, and sons Clifford and Claude. He married 3rd Lydia (Nov 1864). Vestel moved to Canada in 1909. He married 4th Edith Wessel Kackley on 02 Jul 1919 in Woodbury Co, Iowa.
