"Funeral services were held Friday, Dec. 28 in Holland for James Boyce, Allegan County treasurer for 25 years, who died on Christmas Day.
"Boyce, 73, of Allegan, was reared in Laketown Township, in the northwest corner of the county, and was township supervisor there from 1938-1948, when he first was elected treasurer.
"County Clerk Russell Sill said that a statutory committee composed of himself, Probate Judge Dwight Cheever and Prosecuting Attorney Gary Stewart will meet after the first of the year to name a successor to Boyce.
"The replacement will serve until the next general election.
"Boyce is survived by his wife, Eva; a son, James II, of Saugatuck; three daughters, Mrs. Jack Wilkin, of Holland, Mrs. Francis Wilkinson, of Corona, Calif., and Mrs. Jerry Underwood, Ardmore, Okla.; 10 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a brother and four sisters.
"Services were held at 1:30 p.m. at the Mulder Funeral Home in Holland. Burial was in Gibson Cemetery. The Allegan County building was closed at noon Friday to permit employees to attend the funeral."
