A funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday for Robert L. "Red" David of 11 Buckwalter Road, Pulaski. He passed away at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, after a brief illness. He was 77.
Born April 29, 1924, in Sharon, Mr. David was a son of the late John and Anna Fedor David.
Mr. David attended St. Joseph parochial grade school and Sharon High School.
He retired as a conductor in the transportation department of the former Sharon Steel Corp.'s Farrell plant in 1983, after 42 years of service.
Mr. David was a U.S. Army World War II veteran, having enlisted in 1943. He fought with the 63rd Division, also known as the Blood and Fire Division, in the European theater, serving in Normandy. He eventually toured into Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and for his service, was awarded the Infantry Combat Medal and European Theater ribbons.
Mr. David was a member of Church of the Good Shepherd in West Middlesex; the Sokol Lodge and the Slovak Home, both Farrell; American Legion Post 432, Wheatland; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and Sharon Steel Retirees Pensioner's Club.
He also enjoyed monthly breakfast meetings with several other retirees from Sharon Steel in various locations throughout the Shenango Valley.
An outdoors man, Mr. David enjoyed trips to the mountain, hunting and fishing. In his spare time, he could be found bowling or playing cards, particularly pinochle or euchre.
Red and his wife also enjoyed traveling together.
Mr. David will be remembered as a devoted family man who especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.
Survivors include: his wife, the former Valeria Bohach, whom he married Feb. 18, 1950; two sons, Robert J. David and his wife Marsha, Hermitage; and Gary A. David, West Middlesex; one sister, Rose Wasko, Tennessee; a son-in-law, Robert P. Rubano, Farrell; and two grandchildren, Megan Beth David, Hermitage; and Robert M. Rubano, Farrell.
In addition to his parents, Mr. David was preceded in death by one daughter, Renee A. Rubano; one grandson, Trevor John David; and four brothers, John, Clarence, Albert and Ronald David.
Interment: St. Michael's Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage, with full military honors at graveside by Veterans of Foreign Wars.
