The battalion served in the siege around Petersburg and was on the retreat to Appomattox. William married Elizabeth (House) Edwards the daughter of Dudley House and Martha G. Lynch. Elizabeth was the widow of Benjamin Edwards. Elizabeth died August 1892 and William married Bettie Florence Jones, the daughter of John L. Jones and Anna A. -----, March 6, 1893. Bettie died June 3, 1934 and is buried beside William.
