Lewis enlisted in the Brunswick Rebel Artillery on Feb 1, 1863 at Fort Drewry for the duration of the war. He was at Fort Drewry when General Lee ordered The Retreat on Apr 2, 1865 and was at the Appomattox Court House for the surrender on Apr 9, 1865
He Married Levenia Alice Thomas after the war on Apr 25, 1866. She was the daughter of John J and Martha L Thomas.
