Funeral services were conducted Friday, Nov 5th, for Mrs. Charles Berend, nee Elizabeth Kotthoff, at the St. Paul Catholic Church in Berger, Rev. Father Florian Theil officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Berend passed away on November 3 at her home near Berger, ages 76 years, 7 months, and 7 days. Her husband preceded her in death in 1931. She was born at First Creek and was married in 1882 and the couple lived on the farm where she died all their wedded life. Five children survive the deceased as follows: George J. Berend of Berger, Mrs. Phillip Speckhals of Hermann, Walter A. Berend of Hermann R. 1, and Miss Anna Berend and Joseph A. Berend, both of St. Louis. Two sisters, Mrs. Frank Berend of Union and Mrs. R. L. Gatzemeyer of Los Angeles, Calif., also survive her. There are seven grandchildren. Mrs. Berend was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church at Berger and of the Married Women's Sodality of the church.
