Martha May Peer was born the second child of John Franklin Peer and his wife Mary Anne Hill in Champaign City, Illinois. As a child she moved with her family to Labette County, Kansas. She had one older sister, Virginia nicknamed Vonnie and two younger sisters, Mary A. and Clara Ellen plus a baby brother named George Washington Peer.
Mattie married 1st George B. Moody in 1889. They had five children:
1. Vonnie (nickname for Virginia)Moody in 1890,
2. Edwin Jack Moody born in 1891,
3. Warren Verne Moody born September 6, 1895 and died January 22, 1902, buried next to his father in Mountian View Cemetery in Pueblo County, Colorado.
4. Nellie Moody born 1898
5. Laura Nettie Moody born 1900, only months before her father's death.
George B. Moody died of small pox on 22 Dec 1900 in Pueblo County, Colorado and is buried at Mountain View Cemetery.
On Apirl 1, 2902 in Pueblo County, Colorado, Mattie married her second husband Henry Dickes who was 27 years older. They had three daughters:
6. Ruth Lila Dickes,
7. Ethel Lillian Dickes and
8. Violet Beatrice Dickes.
Henry had 12 children from his first marriage. They were a large blended family of 21 children, step-children and half-siblings. They moved to California and then on to Oregon.
