Elsie M. Albig was born at Mt. Riga Station on May 2, 1929 and died Dec. 16, 2004 at Sharon Hospital. She was the daughter of the late George and Lucy Meyer Young. Elsie was first married to Alfred Rose of Spring Hill, Fla. She then married the late Robert Albig, on Sept. 11, 1972. Elsie is survived by her grandchildren Louis III, Kyle, and Lucy and her great-grandson Louis IV all of Jasper. Elsie started school at the Mt Riga School House, graduated from Millerton High School in 1947, later working at the Shagroy Turkey Farm. For 35 years she was a florist at Barnard's in Millerton. As an active member of the Northeast Historical Society, she did many slide presentations for the community. She was a member of the Millerton Methodist Church, and for the past 14 years she and her late husband made holiday decorations for the Christmas Bazaar. Elsie also made seasonal window boxes and grave blankets for the local cemeteries, along with Christmas wreaths. She served on the Board of Elections for 19 years. On Feb. 27, 1978 she was the first woman to receive the "Certificate of Appreciation" from the Millerton Lions Club. For many years she decorated the mantel in the Millerton Library. For those who remember, Elsie decorated the Trunz Farm each year for Christmas and took care of Miss Celie until the end. Her last adventure was Elsie's Fudge, which she made for the Silma Farm. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Dec. 19, 2004 in the Valentine Funeral Home and burial will be in Irondale Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Those hearts she touched will long remember her accomplishments and good works. Arrangements were under the care of the Valentine Funeral Home, Park and Main St, Millerton.
