Charles Dean Glenn was the son of John Carl and Amanda Catherine "Katie" Swortzel Glenn of Beverly Manor (Staunton), Virginia. This is in the Shenandoah Valley west of the Blue Ridge mountains. The children in the family were: Roy H., Frank Leslie, Charles Dean George Edward, Irma Grace, and David Karl.

Charlie was an oil driller and lived/worked in California, Texas, and Canada. His wife was named Christina Angelina "Stella" Ernest (born c. 1881 Marchalltown, Iowa; father b. Germany, mother born France; brother William). In 1920, they lived in Marcopa, Kern CO, CA.

Charlie and Christina moved to Douglas County, OR. In 1927, he bought 365 acres of land (Tom Shrum Donation Land Claim #42), bordering the North Umpqua and Little River (aka East River) in Glide. His wife, Christina, died in childbirth per family stories. Her death certificate states that she died of acute dilation of heart; chronic myocanditis (contributing factor fibroid tumor of uterus), Oct 24, 1929, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. She was 49 years old. Her death certificate states she was to be intered in Wadena, Minnesota.

In 1932, he married Helen Campbell Leake of Roseburg and they raised Shropshire sheep and Bronze turkeys on the ranch in Glide. In 1935, he adopted Helen's daughter, Pat Leake (Hagood).

In 1943, the Glenns sold their ranch, then bought except for 13 acres west of Little River (East River) and built two cabins. Charlie left the state to drill oil again in California and Helen stayed in Glide. Charlie retired to Ephrata, WA, where his daughter and her family lived. He died in Spokane, WA from cancer and a stroke.
