Graveside services for Mr. Howard D. Akins, of Carthage, were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 28, at Restland Memorial Park with Bernie Tiede officiating.
Mr. Akins, 83, died Tuesday, July 26, at Panola General Hospital.
Born May 1, 1905 in Beckville, he was the son of Joseph Lee and Winford Mangham Akins. Mr. Akins had been a resident of Carthage for two years, moving here from Henderson. Mr. Akins was a retired oil field worker. He was also a member of the Grand View Baptist Church and the American Legion. Mr. Akins was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army.
Survivors include one son: Joe Akins of Elysian Fields; one daughter: Ruth Hays of Henderson; one sister: Ruth Weaver of Midlothean; and six grandchildren: Amanda, Joseph and Leann Akins, all of Elysian Fields, and Amanda, Sam and Christopher Hays, all of Henderson.
